When I watch/hear my 17 year old who will be able to vote in the next presidential election and many of her friends talk about the excitement they have for a NEW presidency, their engagement in the political process and passion for what is going on with the election (and being all about OBAMA), I get rather emotional. I have sat at the polls several times now (to help) and have been so dismayed by the incredibly poor turn out of people of my generation (fifty somethings) and every other generation. I am in complete dismay thinking "what's going on?" the level of apathy and disinterest is so pervasive with the majority of local, state and federal elections.People are not engaged. Folks that I would always call activists, no longer have the energy.
I think that this is our time to take things back. I facilitate workshops on women's leadership, I want to see a woman become president of the United States. I agree, that those who perceive me as blind to the gender issue are themselves over looking or just see this election in a limited dimension. There is much more at stake.
